...swinging in a row!
I have a mega cute layout to share today. Over on UK Scrappers we have a monthly House challenge to take part in and this month's challenge is to create a layout based on this sketch:
Hexagons might be hot stuff at the moment but I haven't really got many patterned papers with them on and I don't have a hexagon punch or die cuts. I have a friend who has a hexagon punch which I was going to borrow but when I saw her the other night I totally forgot to take it with me D'oh!
So I made a little hexagon template and pulled out as many hexagon patterns I could find in my scraps (all two of them!) and this is what I came up with:
I used white for my background (which I am becoming a big fan of lately...), stamped a border and cut out a load of small hexagon shapes. I inked the edges of them all to make them stand out a bit and then pieced them all together - I think they look so cool!
I used a couple of different alphas for the title as it was quite a long one. The small block letters worked well over the swirly bee patterned paper (the circle) because they are block style whereas the larger orange letters got a bit lost in the pattern which I why the title is positioned where it is (there were several attempts...)
I can't tell you how much I loved piecing these hexagons together, obviously because of their shape they piece together really well - I'm glad I had a pattern to follow otherwise I would have been there all day playing with different arrangements! I realised after I had finished the layout that I hadn't included the date which is something I usually try to incorporate into my layouts so I wrote it in one of the plain hexagons at the bottom - it's tiny so only I may spot it in the future but hey, it's there!
So hopefully I have done my team over at UKS proud with this layout - I know I've earned 30 points for the team just by entering so that's good!
Hope you like it too!
That's a fab page, Nikki. The colours are gorgeous and a super photo, too. So pleased you liked the sketch. :o)
