Christmas Baubles

Saturday 28 December 2013

Morning all, I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas.

We have another fab sketch this week over at Sketch Saturday:

I went for an alternative/modern colour scheme for this Christmas card. The baubles are by Pink Gem Designs and I've blinged them up a bit with glitter.  I moved the sentiment over t the other side as I didn't like it over to the right, it just didn't sit right. The ribbon is purple and fluffy and I've tied baker's twine around it too.

This week's sketch is sponsored by Prairie Fairy who are offering a great prize to make sure you join in with this week's sketch to be in with a chance of winning. Oh and make sure you pop by next week for a peak at Sketch Saturday's fresh new look...!

Layouts using Teresa Collins 'Family Stories' from the December 'Freedom' kit

Wednesday 25 December 2013

Merry Christmas Everyone!

This week we have been working with the Teresa Collins 'Family Stories' collection. There were six papers from the collection in this month's kit. There was loads of scope with this collection as the papers included a sheet of 3x4 journaling cards and a sheet of border strips.

I've used one of the papers as my background together with a large layer of the people paper. I've added a border strip at the bottom and used one of the journaling cards to house my journaling. I've cut three doilies from one of the border strips ad dotted them around the layout together with other elements cut from the border strips.

My second layout is a bit more simple, with one big cluster to the right of the layout.  I've used three of the journaling cards on this layout (the red spotty one is the reverse of one) and cut out more elements from the border strips.

Layouts made with 'Chalk Studio' collection by My Mind's Eye from the December 'Freedom' kits

Wednesday 18 December 2013

This week we are using the 'Chalk Studio' range by My Mind's Eye. I was not at all keen on the whole chalkboard trend and I'm still not really to be honest but these papers are actually pretty good. While one side is completely black & white chalkboard, the reverse sides have lovely colours and pretty patterns. The black & white goes really well with the colours on the reverse sides so they were no problem to make layouts with, despite my original reservations:

I've gone almost completely with the reverse sides on my first layout with cardstock for the very background (middle gutted) and a few layers of papers. I've used the glittery border strips and cut elements from some of the others.  The only chalkboard element is the frame which I've used as embellishment and to house my title.

For this one I decided to embrace the chalkboard so I've used one of the chalkboard sides as the background. I love the border and the flags. I've also used some more of the patterns to layer the background and have used another ofthe chalkboard frames. That little circular embellishment is made from one of the border strips -I concertinaed it, then stuck the ends and then flattened it into a rosette - pretty.

Christmas Candle

Saturday 14 December 2013

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas...!

This week is our Christmas challenge over at Sketch Saturday. It's a free week which means that you can choose ANY sketch you like (#215 onwards) to join in this week. I've used #216 which was one of my favourites. Last time I did stars for a little boy's birthday card. This time I've gone Christmas...

This amazing image is called Christmas Candle and is by Just Inklined. I've used a Spellbinders die behind the square, a Martha Stewart punch for the large flowers and a Memory Box die for all the stars. There is french script inked on the vanilla card in the background and the sentiment was done in Photoshop and printed. I love the result, the colours are really traditional Christmas which I don't often like but I do like this card.

This week's sponsor is Simon Says Stamp who are offering a great prize to make sure you join in with this week's sketch to be in with a chance of winning.

Layouts made with Prima 'All About Me' collection from December's 'Freedom' kit

Wednesday 11 December 2013

Today we're working with the Prima Marketing 'All About Me' collection. I love this collection, it's very cute and has lovely colours. The frames are great quality as they are made from chipboard rather than just card which means they don't lose their shape at all.

For this layout I've used a piece of cardstock as my background, added a small amount of patterned paper to the left side and embellished the right side with punched stars. My frame holds my title and I've done my journaling on the vertical with I never do!

My second layout uses that lovely flag paper for the background. My photos contain a story about rain so the rain paper was ideal! I've layered up a few of the papers together with several photos and the other frame. I've used cut out raindrops as my embellishment.
