Happy 18th

Saturday, 28 June 2014

I loved this image by All Dressed Up - it's called Love to Shop, and it was ideal for a special 18th birthday girl. She's cute and sassy too and even though I don't know her brilliantly these days, I do know she has a love for shopping - what girl doesn't! She's also been studying super hard for her A Levels and her birthday marks the end of those exams so I hope they've gone well for her and that she spends her birthday celebrating the end of those.

I had great fun with this week's sketch - I even used a Project Life journaling card on this card. I use them a lot for scrapbooking but not very often for cards. I have so many perhaps I ought to set myself a challenge to use at least one for every project I do!!

This week's Sketch Saturday Sketch is sponsored by All Dressed Up and they have a great prize on offer so head on over to be in with a chance of winning.

Cups of Kindness

Saturday, 21 June 2014

This week's Sketch Saturday Sketch is sponsored by Whimsy & Stars Studio and we got to choose some images to work with. I just loved these stacked tea cups called 'Cups of Kindness'. They are perfect for a friend's birthday. I pulled out some very old Papertrey Ink papers but ended up with a very orange looking card which is fine, but was just a bit monochrome for my liking. So when I came to colour in the flowers and the teacups I added in some colour there, and then finished off with some gold chevrons and some yellow enamel dots. Much less orange.

A different sort of sunburst...

Friday, 20 June 2014

Every month on UK Scrappers there is a challenge called Simple Recipes. It's a PDF document packed full of scrappy inspiration. It always includes a sketch, a colour combo and a technique, amongst other things.

This month the technique was confetti stamping and I absolutely loved it, it is just the sort of thing I love to do...lots of little bits! The first layer of dots was done by using a pencil top eraser and yellow ink - I did a few different yellows as well as a shadow ink too. Then I punched some tiny circles out of various different yellow papers and stuck those down, I also added a few enamel dots, the dots from various Thicker sheets, small wood veneer circles, and some gems. I finished off by adding dots of glossy accents and sprinkling micro beads over them - something I've never used before.

The other prompts were to use something old and something new (old papers and new microbeads), something borrowed (staples from a regular stapler) and something blue (flower). I also stuck pretty close to the sketch and to the colour combo.

So thanks very much to Leo for providing such fab inspiration every month, I really love doing your challenges. The June Simple Recipes worksheet can be found on UK Scrappers.

Start with a Sketch #3: What a Difference a Playmate Makes

Wednesday, 18 June 2014

On my previous Start with a Sketch post, I said I'd be back shortly with another video...and nearly 3 months later, here I am. Not sure quite what happened except I got a bit busy but with nothing in particular, so apologies for such a long break and I'll try not to be so long next time.

This sketch contains three small landscape photos, around 2x3". I originally envisaged a plain-ish background with a busy paper in the bottom section i.e. so that a lot of it would be on show. My layout didn't quite turn out like that though and I went the opposite way around. I also ended up moving my journaling to the card in the bottom left corner rather than underneath the title, mainly because my title was so huge that it took up all my jounaling space, and the bottom left corner seemed like a sensible place for it.

Enjoy the video and I'll hopefully be back soon with another one. In the meantime, happy scrapping x

TEAM Project Life May Layouts

Monday, 16 June 2014

This month in the TEAM Project Life prompt (which can be found on UK Scrappers) we're looking at incorporating our rubber stamps onto our Project Life layouts.

We start off my stamping a set of journaling cards and there is a video on this, which also covers making filler cards, jazzing up pre-printed journaling cards, using stamps as embellishments and using character stamps.

There is a second video that shows my week 20 layout from start to finish:

Thanks very much for stopping by - to view the full PDF prompt please visit the Project Life Forum at UK Scrappers.

A floral birthday card for my Dad?

Saturday, 14 June 2014

Making a birthday card for my dad is always a problem. He likes playing tennis, fixing things, beer and golf. But I've used all those options several times over. He also likes gardening and his flowers so, slightly controversially, I went floral on a mans card.

I kept the colour scheme neutral and used bees fr part of the background as well as chipboard clouds for embellishment at the top. Overall, I don't think it was too girls and just about passes for a male card.  My image is one by Little Claire.

Bunny Cuddles

Saturday, 7 June 2014

This card is for another of Sophie's little friends who are all turning 3 at the moment. This particular little girl has a favourite toy - a pink bunny so when I saw this image by Sassy Cheryl (called Bunny gets a Home), I couldn't resist it! I used some nice bright papers for the background and added some flags using my stampin up punch and some twine, oh and some pretty glitter, of course!
