Start with a Sketch #9: Splish Splash

Wednesday 30 July 2014

Sketch #9 really is the last sketch in this mini-series using the collection pack below. I have really enjoyed working with just one collection pack - it made layout decisions very easy. To re-cap, the collection pack had 9 sheets of double sided paper and one 6x12 sticker sheet. I added alphabet stickers and a number of embellishments, as well as a few sheets of cardstock. In total I have made six layouts, one of which was a double, so not bad for a very reasonably priced kit (I think I paid around £12.50 for it) and there's the added bonus of using up some of my existing stash too.

Because I had quite a few bits of patterned paper left over after I finished the last sketch I quickly had to design today's sketch. I really did then use up pretty much every last scrap from the pack.

I hope you've enjoyed this mini-series and I think I'll have another go shortly with another collection pack (I have many that need to be given some love!)

Make sure to pop back this coming weekend for a fun weekend of challenges - we kick off on Friday at 6pm.

Start with a Sketch #8: Any Chance of a Smile?

Sunday 27 July 2014

So I'm nearly at the end of my collection pack. Sketch #8 was supposed to be my last layout in this mini-series and the sketch deliberately designed for using up scraps, but when I had finished this layout, I absolutely had enough for another - so watch out for Sketch #9 in the next few days! Out of all the boxes on the sketch above, I wasn't sure what exactly was going to be patterned papers and what was going to be photographs, so when it came to it, I just went with what felt right. Instead of embellishing to the right of the journaling, I moved my embellishment up to one of the boxes. I found this layout so quick and easy to put together with just a few small scraps - give it a try.

I hope you enjoy this video and I'll be back in a few days with the last sketch in this mini-series using the My Minds Eye Ashbury Heights Collection Pack.

Obsessed with Frozen

Saturday 26 July 2014

The lovely Kirei, lent us her Frozen DVD and we are in love with it (in fact we've had it a few weeks now and are going to have to give it back soon :(  boo hiss) so when it was her birthday, I decided to make her a Frozen card. The image is actually a children's colouring page that I found online, downsized and then treated like a normal digi image. It is the gorgeous Elsa in her icy outfit and I had great fun with my turquoise copics and lots of glittery paper and extra glitter!

This week's Sketch Saturday Sketch is sponsored by Sir Stampalot and they have a great prize on offer so head on over to be in with a chance of winning.

Start with a Sketch #7: Messy Play

Wednesday 23 July 2014

Sketch #7 is part of a mini series I'm working on using just a collection pack - the Market Street Ashbury Heights collection by My Mind's Eye. It had 9 papers in it and I was aiming for around 6 layouts/sides. So far I've done two single layouts and one double, and then there is also today's single layout, so far I am doing well.  I have added a few bits of card to my kit and I've also added q few embellishments, Thickers and washi tape as there was none of that in the pack - just one small set of stickers. My layouts would have been a bit sparse without adding to the kit at all.

Today's sketch has one feature photo and three little photos along the bottom of the layout:

Thank you so very much for watching and I'll be back in a few days with another video.

TEAM Project Life June Layouts

Monday 21 July 2014

This month in the TEAM Project Life prompt (which can be downloaded on UK Scrappers) we are looking at a few different things:

First up is how to include more of ourselves in our layouts. We are always the ones behind the camera right and therefore rarely feature in photos. I'm pretty good with my self timer but the moans and groans I get when I go to set up a shot usually stop me doing it :( but this month I made a concerted effort to get in front of the camera more, and I'm pleased to say that I do feature somewhere on every single layout this month!

The second thing we talk about is how to include your holiday photos - do you try to scrap every single photo and therefore use inserts etc to squeeze a few more in, or do you just want an overview?

and finally we're talking about using an enlargement photo to give a special layout a big impact!

Thanks very much for stopping by, I hope you enjoy the videos and the PDF which you can find over at UK Scrappers.

Start with a Sketch #6: The 14th

Sunday 20 July 2014

Back to a single layout sketch today. Sketch #6 has one feature photo with four different coloured squares of paper/journaling/photo underneath. This sketch is part of a mini-series using the My Mind's Eye Market Street Ashbury Heights Collection pack. I'm sticking pretty close to what's in the kit only adding card and a few embellishments, oh and Thickers of course!

My photo was a valentines photo and I wasn't quite sure where to go with the journaling. I liked the idea of writing 14 things about us but I was feeling a bit frazzled the day I made this and just couldn't think of 14 interesting things - another day and I'd have no problem with that but that day I just couldn't think! So I went for generic journaling instead. The stitched heart wasn't planned so was a bit impromptu but I like the effect.

I hope you enjoyed the video - please feel free to share your layouts below and I'll be back in a few days with another sketch in this mini-series.

A Beautiful Bride...

Saturday 19 July 2014

When I first found out that A Day for Daisies was going to be a Sketch Saturday sponsor a few times throughout 2014 I wasn't sure - I thought the images would be difficult to colour but now I am absolutely IN LOVE with their images and I often pop over to their site to see what new beauties they have even when they aren't sponsoring. Some of the cards I've made with their images are amongst my favourite all time cards, and I've made a lot of cards!

This card is for a very fancy wedding. I could have gone for a traditional bride and groom image but I really wanted to use this image (called Braid in my Hair) and I figured she could be the bride - right! The wedding invitations were gold so I went for that colour scheme and basically went to town on this one! I've got glitter, gold twine, lots of flowers, crystal swirls and punched shapes. I love this one and I loved colouring her hair, eve though it did take me quite a while...

This week's Sketch Saturday Sketch is sponsored by A Day for Daisies and they have a great prize on offer so head on over to be in with a chance of winning.

Start with a Sketch #5: Dealer Takes All

Wednesday 16 July 2014

Sketch #5 is the second in a mini-series of sketches all using the very gorgeous Market Street Ashbury Heights collection pack and this time I've gone for a double. There are only nine sheets of paper in this collection kit so I decided to add a couple of papers for the background to my double page, instead of wasting two of those precious papers. I went for a simple tone on tone kraft striped paper (by Simple Stories)

This layout contains from the same event as Start with a Sketch #4 and therefore I tried to carry some of the embellishments through from that layout onto this one. I had quite a number of photos so that large panel on the right page actually lifts up to reveal more photos underneath:

Thank you very much for watching and I'll be back shortly with another sketch and video in this mini-series. In the meantime please share your layouts below if you like.

Start with a Sketch #4 Casino Royale

Sunday 13 July 2014

Sketch #4 marks the start of a mini series of sketches using one collection pack - the My Mind's Eye Market Street Ashbury Heights collection.  The collection pack contains 9 double sided patterned papers, some of which have gorgeous gold foiled detail on them, as well as a 6x12 sticker sheet. Apart from what's in the collection pack already, I have added a few sheets of cardstock, washi tape, Thickers and some embellishments but what I've pulled out I'm going to stick to and not deviate from (much!). When I buy a collection pack I do one of two things: challenge myself to use it as a whole and see how many layouts I can get out of it (only adding cardstock and a few embellishments) or I split it up completely and just put the papers in with my cuttent paper stack and pull out a sheet whenever the occasion arises. This time I'm challenging myself to use the lot and I've done a series of sketch videos to show how I've done that.

Sketch #4 comprises of one very large portrait feature photo but I've rotated the sketch as my feature photo was landscape (d'oh!). Apart from that rotation I've kept really close to the sketch, turning my title and keeping the embellishments in the designated areas.

there are no close ups of the embellishment details on the video and it can be hard to see what I've got there so I've included a couple of close-ups below instead.

Enjoy the sketch and the video and I'll be back shortly with another video in this mini-series. Please feel free to share your layouts below.
