Morning all. I hope you all have fabulous weekends. Mine was VERY busy, we were here there and everywhere!
Unfortunately on Saturday we had to go and visit my husband's mum and grandparents, I say unfortunately because they are truly some very strange people and are completely hopeless with our little girl, for example they recently ripped up their two year old carpet and replaced it with ceramic tile flooring which has got to be the most dangerous surface for a little child, they obviously didn't think of her at all when they had that done. They then wouldn't let her play with any toys we took with us because they might scratch the floor...not exactly baby friendly.
We regularly get given goodie bags when we see them though. They never contain anything particularly useful or nice but always have great comedy value. For example, Ben is 32 years old but regularly gets bought underpants and given slightly bizarre things such as packets of paracetamol (?). For Christmas I was given a toilet roll, yes you read correctly, an actual toilet roll - just the one which was wrapped up and everything. These little gems have become the highlight of our visits to them and Saturday's visit was no exception. I was given a goodie bag that contained 1) a water pistol, 2) two dresses for Sophie (aged 2-3 years but she's only 14 months), 3 ) a pregnancy magazine and 4) about 20 sanitary towels. I kid you not. Would you really give your daughter in law who you really don't know very well the last item on that list? And items number 3) and 4) don't exactly go hand in hand do they?! So we had a good laugh about that on the way home. Sophie was less than impressed about not being able to play with anything though.
Anyway, enough about my in-laws and on to this week's Only Scraps Allowed challenge. This week I had some brilliant photos of Sophie completely covered in ink - Vintage Photo Distress Ink to be precise, so I raided my scraps basket for all the shades of brown I could find and here is what I found:
and here's my layout! I'm not totally happy with this one, I think the background sheet is the wrong colour but it seemed to match fairly well when I was choosing it but now it's all made up I'm not so keen. I may have to transfer the layout (if that's possible now it's stuck!) onto kraft or something similar. It does look better in real life than it does in the photos though.
I found this very cute wooden flower in my stash and paired it up with a few paper flowers. I used a few different ribbons on this layout including that fabulous crocheted trim under the photo.
And here's my journalling - have a read, I didn't know what to do when I saw her covered in ink!
and a close up of my title. I really struggled to find enough alpha stickers for such a long title so I mixed up the fonts as much as I could get away with. It doesn't help that my alpha stash was getting very low...I've sorted that problem now though, oops!
If you fancy joining me in my mission to use up my scraps this week, simply create a layout using only paper scraps and one whole sheet of card or patterned paper for the background. Add any embellishments and alpha stickers that you like! If you do join in, link your layouts below so I can see what you have made!
Happy scrapping!
I just love that story of the in-laws, it's not often you find gems like that in a family. Is the whole family eccentric, apart from DH of course!!
ReplyDeleteI love the LO especially those gorgeous photos. I wouldn't re-do to use kraft backing, it's perfect as it is.
Thank you.
Your in laws sound the pits, but at least you get a good laugh . I think the Lo's lovely
ReplyDeleteMy sister was once given a pot of anti-wrinkle cream by my Grandma... and a balaclava! I guess she thought that if the wrinkle cream didn't work she could always cover her head with the balaclava! lol
ReplyDeleteThere are some weird people in the world.. amd my in laws are two of them too.
Great LO though and love the inspiration for using my scraps up. TFS!
Thank you for another informative site. The place
ReplyDeleteelse may I get that kind of information written in such an
ideal approach? I have a undertaking that I'm simply now running on, and I've been at the
look out for such information.
