Cards, Cards, Cards - odd mix of olympic birthday and wedding...

Thursday 5 July 2012

Morning all

I have some cards to show today.  The first one is for my good friend Russ's birthday which was Tuesday just gone. He's going to be running with the olympic torch in a couple of week's time so when I saw the Olympic Runner image by KennyK I knew it would be just perfect for his birthday card:

This is such a fab image although I doubt I'll ever have use for it again!! Here he is a bit closer:

I'm entering this one into this week's KennyK's Krafty Krew challenge which is 'Patriotic' i.e. to use the colours of your flag. As you can see I used red white and blue for the UK.

Russ's wife Gemma called me on Friday to say she needed to make a card for Russ and that she wanted to replicate The Stone Roses album cover - could I help?

My initial reaction was OMG! I don't really do paint so didn't have much idea on how to create the background - the rest was simple enough though.  So Friday night over she came. I had another friend over too and we kept putting off crafting in favour for chatting, eating and drinking but about midnight we thought we'd better give it a go (several bottles of prosecco later...)

I don't think we did a bad job! Sorry for the terrible photo, I forgot to take a pic of it so had to get Gemma to take one and send it through, she obviously didn't have my blog in mind when she took this though! We made the background by starting off with dark green card and dabbing white craft ink all over it with scrunched up peices of paper. We did that over and over and then did the same with light blue and then splattered some black staz on reinker all over it.

We went for 'The Stone Russes' to personalise it a bit which I cut out on my Cricut, and added the ribbons. We stamped oranges, cut them out and hey presto!

I got a call on Saturday from Gemma to say that unfortunately they weren't oranges on the album cover at all, they were actually lemons, D'oh! So off I went Sunday morning to drop off lemons instead - Gem you did a great job changing them over, although I still think they look like oranges but hey ho!

I hope he liked his cards, we certainly put a lot of effort into them!

Moving on to a couple of the other cards I've made so far this week, I needed an engagement card for my cousin and I wondered whether I could kill two birds with one stone and make a wedding card at the same time, same design etc for a wedding I'm going to at the beginning of August.  I found a fab Bugaboo image which was pretty much perfect and made these:

This one I've done for the engagement as the colours are slightly less wedding-y

and this one is for the wedding - exactly the same design just softer colours and 'For the Newlyweds' sentiment instead of congratulations.

I followed the sketch (challenge 114) this week over at the Catch the Bug challenge blog which is Bugaboo's challenge and I'm hoping to win as the winner gets loads of Bugaboo stamps which are fast becoming my favourites up with KennyK!

I hope you are having a good week so far. Ben's away AGAIN this weekend so I have another few days by myself. Bad because I miss him and don't like being on my own but good because it means I can get lots of crafting done so will hopefully have lots of things to share with you next week.
