UK Scrappers Blog Hop

Tuesday, 3 July 2012

Hi All

If you are visiting from the UKScrappers sponsor blog hop you have probably come here from Bee Crafty. After commenting, hop on over to Cardmaking Paradise. If you lose your way hop instead to the UKS post to see the linked list.

Remember:
1. You must leave a comment here and on every other blog in the hop
2. You must leave your UKS username in all your comments - that way we know who you are!
3. Once you have completed the hop, hop on over to the UKS post and reply to tell us you've finished and then you'll be entered into the prize draw!

Once everyone has completed the hop there will be prize draws for some absolutely fantastic prizes! Thank you to all the sponsors who have generously donated prizes (including me!!)

Not only will you be entered into the grand prize draw, all the commenters on this post will also be entered into a another prize draw - just for the Being Scrappy commenters! The prize is two packs of American Crafts Thickers - yummy!!

So here is my Blog Hop offering, we'll be making the layout below in 10 easy steps:

Before we get started, please feel free to use your own supplies (list below) but I do have a small number (only 5) kits available if you would like to make this exact layout.

What you need (and what the kit contains):
2 x sheets of patterned paper (in the kit: My Mind's Eye 'Miss Caroline' range)
1 x sheet of cardstock (in the kit: Vanilla Bazzill)
Alphabet stickers (in the kit: American Crafts Thickers: white glittery - yummy!)
A few flowers (in the kit: Prima 'Pearle Bebe' flowers)
Ric Rac or trim (in the kit: 1/2 meter of pink ricrac)
A few die cut shapes (in the kit: two large sprigs of leaves, one small, small label)

If you would like to purchase this kit, it costs £9.50 including the postage.

Right let's get started:

Step 1:
Choose a 6x4" black & white portrait photo and gut your background sheet 1 1/2" in from each edge. (you should be left with a white square 9x9")

Step 2:
Cut patterned paper to 10" square. Rough up the edges with a distressing tool (or anything that will rough up the edges such as an emery board etc). Ink the edges lightly in light brown ink and stick to the centre of the frame created in Step 1 (thus covering the gaping whole you just made!)

Step 3:
Cut two strips from the other piece of patterned paper. The first should measure 3x 9 1/2" and the second (reverse) should measure 2 1/4 x 9 1/4". Distress the edges of both and ink lightly with light brown ink. Cut another strip from the leftover square we cut out of the background sheet in Step 1 which should measure 9 x 1 1/4". Make this decorative by using a border punch.

Here are the three strips so you can see them clearly:

and here they are as they will look on the layout. Do not stick them together yet though.

Step 4:
Cut a piece of patterned paper to 2 1/2 x 3" distress the edges and ink in light brown ink. Slide this under all the layers. Still don't stick anything though.

Step 5:
Mount your photo onto cream card 6 3/4 x 4 3/4"  (leftover from the square in Step 1). Can you guess what I'm going to say next? You guessed it, distress the edges and ink them in light brown ink! Oh and still don't stick...

Step 6:
OK, NOW you can stick!! Assemble your layout as per the picture below and once you are happy then stick everything down. Note: the decorative strip is stuck over the bottom edge of the photo mount.

Step 7:
Add a strip of pink RicRac under the photo - about 11 1/2" long.

Step 8:
Add your title. Tip: start from the last letter and work backwards to ensure perfect placement!

Step 9:
Add three flowers, the die-cut leaves and the journalling label in a cluster to the left of your title. TIP: write your journalling on first and then raise it up with sticky foam pads.

Step 10:
Create a cluster in the top right corner of the layout. You'll need a small piece of patterned paper (2 x 3/4" distress and ink the edges),  a strip of cream card 2 1/2" x 1 (with a decorative edge), pink ric rac (3") the small die cut leaves and the last Prima flower. Assemble as per the photo below.

...and once again, here is the finished layout (I know it was at the beginning but I thought you might like to see it again!)

Well I hope you enjoyed making this layout, I would love to see your creations so please link your work below if you'd like to share. I'll leave the linky open until the end of July and then I will choose a winner and that winner will receive a little something from me.

Thanks so much for joining in the hop - it was lovely to see you!
