52 Layouts Step-by-Step #5 Treehouse

Friday 6 July 2012

Hello peeps!

Welcome to another installment of 52 Layouts Step-by-Step. This week I have another single layout for you to make with a bit of a rustic feel.

But first, the fabulous K suggested that I put together a 52 Layouts badge for people to display on their blogs if they are joining in with the series...so here it is:

It's also in my sidebar so you ca also grab it from there.

Right, here are the supplies you need to join in with this week's layout:

3 x patterned papers
1 x card
a scrap of plain white or vanilla
Alphabet stickers
String or twine
Buttons - large and small
A few flowers
A small envelope and a small tag
a 6x4 colour portrait photo

Step 1:
Choose your background paper. I've obviously (!) gone for a heavy wood effect patterned paper as my base.

Step 2:
Cut your patterned paper to 6 1/2" x 9 1/2". Ink the edges and stick to the left side of your layout.

Step 3:
Cut a contrasting piece of patterned paper to 5 1/2 x 7 3/4". Ink the edges and stick down.

Step 4:
Mount a 6x4 portrait photo onto a contrasting cardstock 6 1/4 x 4 1/4 but do not stick the photo onto the layout just yet.

Step 5:
Make a couple of holes in the top right corner of your photo and thread through and knot some string or twine.

Here's a close up of those two knots so you can see them a bit clearer.

Step 6:
Add the small envelope and also the tag - but first tie and knot a piece of string or twine through the tag.

Step 7:
Add your buttons and flowers. I also tied string through all of these.

Step 8:
Take two lengths of string or twine approximately 14" in length. Tie knots evenly all the way along then stick this to your layout. Getting it to stick was a bit tricky - I used dots of Glossy Accents under all the knots but had to hold it in place for about 5 minutes until it had bonded enough for me to let go! My string was a bit unruly, twine would have been much easier!

Step 9:
Add a title

Step 10:
Make a small tag from the scrap white or cream card to fit inside your envelope. The size of your tag depends on the size of your envelope. I made mine 1/4" smaller than the envelope and then snipped the corners off one end to make the tag shape. Ink the edges and write on your journalling. Slot your tag inside the envelope to finish your layout.

And here is the completed layout, what do you think?

To join in next week you will need:
a 6x4 landscape photo
3 sheets of patterned paper
2 sheets of cardstock
Alphabet
Embellishments - I've gone for flower epoxy stickers and a metal plaque type thing
Some trims  - I've got 3 pictures, not sure I'll use them all though

Don't forget to link this week's layouts below so I can see what you've been up to!
