Disastrous Winter Walks | Hip Kit Club | Recipe Challenge

Sunday 17 January 2021

Hi everyone, I have a new layout to share today for Hip Kit Club. I’m using the December 2020 Hip Kits which can be found here.

I’m also playing along with this week’s challenge which is a Recipe Challenge. You can play along with the challenge over in the Hip Kit Club Group on Facebook. You can find it in the announcements section and there is a prize for one lucky winner too. The Recipe is:

·         Fussy cutting

·         Stitching

·         Frames

·         At least 5 lines of journaling.

I just loved the little frames on the ‘Photo Gallery’ paper so I fussy cut those out. Fussy cutting element: TICK. I arranged them in a circle on my white background together with my little photo.

The photo sits on a circle cut from Northern Lights paper and I added a chipboard circle frame to that too. I also added a frame behind my photo as a mount. Frames element: TICK.

I decided to add stitching to all of the photo frames. I choose to go for chain stitch as it reminds me of knitting, and this layout was about us being all bundled up, going out for a winter walk and we both have woolly hats on so chain stitch was definitely perfect here. I choose three different colours and chain stitched around each frame. I kept the embroidery floss at six strands so that my stitching was nice and chunky. I then drew a circle onto my white background and machine stitched over it, three times with teal thread on my sewing machine. This was to form the basis of my wreath. Stitching element: TICK.

I stuck my stitched frames onto my wreath and my photo too. I added fussy cut flowers and chipboard hearts in between some of the frames. I also added label stickers to my frames – they say the best things, like ‘#real life’ ‘always on the go’ ‘cherish’ and ‘all bundled up’. The labels in Hip Kits always seem so relevant to my life!

For my title I added the word ‘winter’ which was a large chipboard sticker. I added ‘Disastrous’ in red letters above it, and ‘walks’ in silver letters below it, so my title read ‘disastrous winter walks’ – they are always disastrous when we take our two year old out – he loves being out but only likes going in his chosen direction, running in the road, throwing stones…so every walk is a disaster! Real life hey! I’ve added 11 lines of journaling below the title in grey pen which I’ve underlined too. Five lines of journaling element: TICK.

I finished off with some silver thread, I also added in some acetate and chipboard snowflakes around my photo and I also added a few splatters in Shimmerz Naughty or Nice Inklingz around the wreath. I then decided my layout would look nice with a border. I used the back of the Photo Gallery paper which is pink. My border was very narrow in places where I had cut out the elements that were close to the edge, so I actually didn’t trim my white cardstock background at all. I applied the adhesive about ¼” in from each edge and stuck it square on the pink paper. I then distressed the edges of the white and folded up some parts of it around the edge, so bits of pink show In some places and not others. I really like the effect of this soft border.

Thank you so much for joining me today and happy scrapping
