December Album Foundation Page 19 | Scrap Academy Christmas Party Challenge: white on white

Saturday, 12 December 2020

Hi everyone, I have a new layout for Scrap Academy today. This is a foundation page for my December Album 2020 (which I'm very behind with!!). We are having a Christmas Party over at Scrap Academy at the moment and this week's challenge is 'White Christmas' and is to make an entirely white layout, also known as 'white on white'.

I absolutely LOVE white on white layouts...they always have a very serene and magical feel to them and I always love what I create whenever I use this technique.

So when attempting a white on white layout, texture is your friend. I look for different things that are white, ways to make texture out of white things and I also tend to cut lots of shapes using punches, cut files or metal dies.

I started with a 6x8 piece of white card as this is a page for my December Album and I'm doing 6x8 this year. I used white texture paste all over the background through a star stencil. Before the paste was dry I also sprinkled white glitter over the background so that the glitter would stick to the texture paste.

Once my background was dry I then added star wreath cut files (from Peartree cut files) that I had cut multiple times, all over the background. I had some going off the edges so I just stuck them in place then trimmed off the excess. I used those excess pieces to then fill in some of the gaps around the edges of the layout. The effect of the background is absolutely gorgeous - this technique really does look beautiful.

I used vellum to create two envelopes. One is bigger than the other. The large one will hold my photos and journaling whilst the small one is purely decorative. In the big one I added some pieces of white card that I had first run through my Big Shot with an embossing folder - another great way to make texture out of white card!

I also cut a number of stars and foliage using metal dies and my Big Shot. I arranged these together with a white glittered circle (that I had punched) onto the small envelope. I also added '19' in white glittered Thickers.

I then added clear 'raindrops' from Lucy's Shop to my background and finished off with a few Spiegelmom Scraps Sequins within the cluster.

Now the only problem with white on white layouts is photographing them! They certainly don't look anywhere near as beautiful on camera as they do in real life! I've done my best but the result is much more magical in real life: give it a go, I promise you will love the result.

You have until midnight (GMT) on saturday 2nd January 2021 to upload your layouts to the album on the Scrap Academy Facebook Group, to be in with the chance of winning a pirze from our December Sponsor: Aardvark Gifts and Crafts.

Happy scrapping

Niki xx
