52 Layouts Step-by-Step #12 Testing the Water

Friday 24 August 2012

Happy Friday to all out there in blogland! Friday means that I have another installment of 52 Layouts Step-by-Step for you today.

This week you will need:
3 x patterned papers
1 sheet of cardstock
A smallish piece of another colour of cardstock
2 6x4 landscape photos - capable of bring trimmed
Washi tape
Decorated tag (mine is pre made but you can always decorate it yourself!)
Some stamps for creating embellishments plus ink pads (obvious but not pictured!)
AND (which I completely forgot to put on the list last week or in the photo) alphabets! I've gone for one big, one small.

Step 1
Choose your background and ink the edges. I went for cardstock rather than patterned paper because even though I wanted to use one of my pps for the background it was very lightweight and not strong enough for a background. If you want to preserve any card then gut it 1.5" in from each edge. (I actually ended up not needing any for the layout and actually stuck it back in to make the layout stronger! What a la la)

Step 2
Choose a background paper and trim it to 11" square. Ink the edges and stick over the large hole in the middle of your cardstock.

Step 3
Cut a strip of patterned paper to 3x12", ink the edged and stick across the bottom of the layout.

Step 4
Stick washi tape over each of the edges of the strip we just stuck down.

Step 5
Cut another patterned paper to 2.5x6.5", ink the edges and stick to the layout.

Step 6
Trim two 6x4 photos down to 5.5x4" and mount onto a piece of card 5.75x8.25". Do not stick the photos onto the layout yet - draw around where you want them to go with a pencil...

Step 7
Stick washi tape over the pencil lines, making sure it crosses over at each corner. This is going to form a frame for your photo layer to sit on. Add your photos - these can be stuck to the layout now.

Step 8
Add a tag in the bottom right corner.

Step 9
Stamp some embellishments and cut them out. Then arrange them onto your layout and stick.

Step 10
Add a title to the left of the photo.

And then you're done! A quick and easy layout!  If you create a layout based on this tutorial then please link your work below on the Linky tool.

Next week I'. making a layout with 6 photos - yes 6!! Here's what you'll need:
1 x card (there are two pictured but I actually only used one)
3 x patterned papers (again 4 pictured but I only used 3 - 6 photos take up a lot of room!)
Alphabet stickers, big & small
A little envelope/bag
A few flower embellishments
6 photos capable of being trimmed. I have actually used one 6x4", two 4x4"s and three 2.5x2.5"

See you next week!

  1. Thanks for the inspiration again this week - it's really helping me get through the photos for my grandsons album. Love the photos of your daughter enjoying the summer sun in the pool.
