Celebrate Two Years | Scrap Academy | Mixed Media Layering

Saturday 24 October 2020

Hey everyone, I have a new layout and video to share today for Scrap Academy. This term we are focusing on mixed media and today I am showing you a mixed media layering technique.

I began with a piece of 6x12 Marshmallow cardstock. I chose rainbow colour watercolours by Shimmerz Paints. The colours I used are: Naughty or Nice Inklingz, Just Peachie Creameez, Daffodil Creameez, Lettuce Get Together Creameez, Boogie Boardin Blue Creameez and Steely Blue Eyes Inklingz.  I applied them to the cardstock with the packaging technique, ensuring that I covered a wide strip, so that the colours would eventually fill up the entire 6x12 cardstock. I added splatters and left it to dry.

The next layer was stencilling. I picked out six ink pads in similar colours and a star stencil. I placed the stencil over the area I wanted to stencil on, then used an ink dauber to apply the ink through the stencil. I did this on all the colours.

The third layer was stamping. I used three different star stamps and the same ink pads to stamp more stars onto each colour.

This has given be a multi layered piece of mixed media cardstock. I then used this to back a balloon cut file from Confessions of a Paper Addict. I love the effect!

Once backed I then fussy cut some hearts from a sheet of speciality paper and stuck them on top of my balloons, raised on foam pads for extra dimension.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this layout and video, and learning this technique!

Happy scrapping
