Write Your Story | Hip Kit Club | Mixed Media Monday

Wednesday 24 February 2021

Hi everyone, I have a new layout to share today for Hip Kit Club using the January 2021 Kits. You can find them on the website here. I've also used two exclusive cut files, called Write Your Story and Top10, which can both be found in the JanuaryDownloads section of the website.

Today is Mixed Media Monday so I grabbed my January Color Kit and got to work! I used a piece of pale blue cardstock as my background. I started by spraying directly onto the layout with Shimmerz Snow Way Man. I then decided I wanted to add some more blue so reached for Oakie Bear Blue Inklingz which was in the December 2020 Color Kit. I added this colour using the packaging technique. I then added some Precious Posy Inklingz also using the packaging technique. I added splatters in all these colours and some bigger drips and then set the background aside to dry.

I took a piece of the dark paper with stars on from the January kit and cut it into a starburst design so that I had 'shards' of paper. I spend some time arranging these onto the layout: some star side up and some white side up. I distressed the edges of all and stuck them in place. I also sewed through them with black thread on my sewing machine.

I cut the Write Your Story cut file from the same blue cardstock as my background. I backed it with purple patterned paper. I used the Top 10 cut file to cut stars. I cut several stars, solid ones and outline ones, from the same blue card, a dark blue card (both from the Cardstock Kit) and some from the pink woodgrain patterned paper. I arranged the Write your Story cut file onto my layout as my title and added the stars randomly around the layout. I added wood veneer stickers - these are such awesome embellishments, I love the black etching and there is even some gold foiled etching too! I also added chipboard stickers and puffy stickers.

At the end of my layout I wasn't happy with how the title looked. The 'write your' words got lost in the busy-ness behind them. So I attempted to correct this by painting them with black paint. This unfortunately didn't work because then they blended into the photos and background even more! So I cut the cut file again, in the same size, in white card. I trimmed of the bits I didn't need and then layered the 'write your' words on top of the black painted ones, slightly offset so there was a black shadow. This was the answer and those words are now much more clear. Phew!

I finished with white splatters, twiddles of silver thread and more star embellishments!

Thank you so much for joining me today and happy scrapping
