Oh What Fun! Simple Stories Holly Days

Thursday 27 January 2022

Hey everyone, here is a new layout using the Holly Days collection by Simple Stories. I wanted to document a not-so-fun Christmas story from this Christmas just gone and Holly Days is my favourite Christmas collection so this is what I used!

Unfortunately my daughter tested positive for Covid six days before Christmas! My son then also tested positive. So our lead-up to Christmas was a little different to what we were expecting but we made the best of it and we were really in the best place ever for quarantine…a vacation home in a hot country with a swimming pool, so it was not so bad! They also had no symptoms which was really lucky and the remaining members of the family didn’t catch it so all round our Covid experience was quite a good one!

I started off by tearing the checked paper multiple times. I created wavy lines with it for the top and the bottom of my layout. I used both sides of the paper to create the different patterns and I curled the torn edges and distressed them so they had lots of dimension.

I added my two photos to the bottom right side of the layout, tucked beneath the paper layers. To the left of the photos I added a Bramble Fox acrylic embellishment that came in an Advent Calendar (the best Advent calendar ever!) which was a FaLaLa Christmas train. I tucked it in so it looked like the train was driving over the wavy torn paper strips.

For my title I used ‘oh what fun’ from the Simple Stories Foam Stickers and I also added a subtitle to my photo ‘Covid for Christmas’ using a combination of alphabet stickers from the Holly Days Sticker book and a word label. I added tags from the Tags paper behind my photo and I tied these though with ribbons.

I wanted to balance out the very large cluster containing the photos, so I created a smaller embellishment cluster at the top left corner of the layout with flower stickers, holly leaves acrylic by Bramble Fox and label stickers.

I wrote my journaling following he wavy line of the paper at the top of the layout and finished off with white paint splatters.

Even though this isn’t the most fun story, it is real life and those things need documenting! So I’m super pleased I have this story documented and in my album. I hope you enjoyed it despite the subject!
Thanks so much for joining me today and happy scrapping

Niki xx
