This post is part of the National Scrapbook Day Blog Hop hosted by

the Facebook Group “For The Love Of Pretty Paper”

If you are following the hop you should have arrived here from Crafty Little Bling

To be in with a chance of winning the Blog Hop prize you will need to comment on this post (and on all the blogs in the hop) and when you have completed the hop, return to the Blog Hop thread on “For The Love Of Pretty Paper” and leave a comment to let us know you have been all the way around the hop. Visitors who leave the same (or seen to be the same by the Organisers) comment on all the blogs will not be eligible for the prize. The Closing date for Blog Hop entries is Monday 8th May at 10pm. Only Uk addresses are eligible for the prize due to postage costs. Good Luck!

After your visit here please hop on to Chatty Crafty Arty Pig and if you lose your way or you want to start at the beginning of the hop you can find the complete list on the Facebook page here or on Fiona’s blog

The theme for the Blog Hop is “Favourite Technique” and my favourite technique at the moment is using my Silhouette sketch pens to drawn a design onto white card, and then colour that design with paints. I'm using the Imagination Crafts 'Starlights' paints a lot right now as well as two sets of watercolour paints, one regular and one pearlescent.

For this layout I've used the Dear Lizzy collection 'Lovely Day' for a background sheet and a number of embellishments from the same collection

Happy hopping!
Niki xx

  1. That title looks really effective, haven't tried this at all on my Cricut yet - one to add to the list! Beautiful colours

    1. Try googling a title that you want, print it off and colour it in!

  3. I don't own a silhouette so am not entirely sure how you did this. Do you have a YouTube clip showing it in action?

    1. I don't have it filmed, but plenty do, so type 'silhouette sketch pens' into YouTube and you'll see it in action! The silhouette is a cutting machine but you can take out the blade and put a pen in instead so it draws the design instead of cutting it out x

  5. Getting a Silhouette is the ultimate dream however there's no reason why those of us without one can't print the design and get the same effect :)

  6. I love my Silhouette and recently did a page without a photo but sketched the words to my favourite song. I think it worked out really well. I haven't thought about colouring in the words though so thank you for that tip

  7. I love the big title, will definitely give it a go. I like using papers as a 'frame' think I will do it more.

  8. Omg I love This!!! Great page! I do most of my scrapbooking on 12x12 with a cricut explore which I think is similar. I usually do journaling with it but love this idea. I'm looking forward to trying out this technique. Thanks for sharing.

  10. I don't have access to a silhouette machine but I can see that using a big title as the focus can be very effective.

  11. Always worried about using paints on my layouts but this looks lovely, may have to give it a try.

  12. I wish I could do this but I'm terrible at sketching!! I guess I could trace 😊

  13. Love this. Thankyou for sharing your talent. Can you tell me though did the silhouette cut and colour the sentiment all at once or just cut the sentiment and you coloured it in. Sorry for asking but everyone uses it for different uses and I'm trying to see what things the machine actually does lol.

    1. The Silhouette didn't cut this design at all. I took the blade out and put a 'sketch pen' in instead and it drew the outline of the design straight onto the white card. I then coloured it in with paint x

    2. Hi again Niki. I understand what you said now lol. I haven't heard of the sketch pen before. What a fantastic idea. I suppose you could use the pen to do the outline, then colour it in, then pop it back in with the blade and it it out if you're no good at fussy cutting lol. Thankyou for explains it to me. X.

    1. Try printing a design from your home printer onto thin card and colour it in,then cut the design out as a whole and stick it on your page that way x

  23. Your layout is great Nicki. I shall have to give this a try although I am surprised the Silhouette pens don't bleed when painted

    ReplyDelete

    1. They do bleed - it really annoys me! So I try to use thicker paint when painting an intricate design ie where I'm more likely to touch the lines and only watercolours when I know I can easily paint inside the lines and barely touch them. Its ok as long as you don't have too much water xx
