Birthday Cupcake!

I'm getting into baking cupcakes these days and I'm actually getting fairly good at them but this one is not baked, just printed and hand decorated! I tried out a few new copic colour combos on this cupcake and am really pleased with the result. I added sparkle to add to the delicious-ness of course. The cupcake is by Meljens.

5 0'clock Somewhere!

Happy birthday to Double D (private joke!). She loves a glass or two of wine or cocktails or anything really so this card is for her, and very apt it is too!  I've used really old Papertrey Ink papers and the image is a Stamping Bella rubber stamp (a real one not a digi) and I've finished off with a gem swirl and some flags.

Happy Anniversary

This week's card is an anniversary card for some good friends - I was actually maid of honour at their wedding! They've been married 3 years now and I have no idea where that time has gone!

This heart image was a freebie. The papers are by My Mind's Eye and I've finished off with some gems and a flower cluster. Loving these colours.

Special Christmas

This is the first of my 'Special' Christmas cards - they are large cards (8x8) and I usually personalise them to the recipient. I haven't done a sentiment for this card yet as I'm going to make them all and personalise them when I've chosen which one is to go to which person!

Merry Christmas to my Baby Boy

I know it's only September but I'm working hard on my Christmas cards already. This is the first of my 'special' Christmas cards, and this one is for my beautiful baby boy. He is only 18 months and totally won't appreciate this card but given I love him so much he deserves a special card, Merry Christmas bubby xx

60th Birthday

Oh I do struggle with cards for men. I usually keep things fairly clean and simple and go with neutral images such as stars. I don't usually spend ages colouring a man's card because  it won't be appreciated, but also because I don't feel comfortable sending fully grown men a card with a cartoon-type character on it - my hubby always makes fun of me if I do! 

So that leaves me without an image and then I am often lost. This card was no exception. I had the idea of using the large panel for a die-cut phrase but apart from that I was fairly stuck. I'm still not very happy with the way it turned out :( . It's for my father-in-law's 60th birthday so it had to be a bit special which is why I went for the gold glitter (that is the most of that paper I have ever used in one go so he should be honoured!)  and then I added the navy blue to tone it down a bit, but I don't really like them together. And then I added the stamping and the little champagne bottle that I had an absolute shocker colouring (all my copics have run out and every shade I wanted to use was dry - I MUST get my order in soon!!).  It looks worse than it is actually because in real life I have spread glossy accents over it but it doesn't look good at all in the photo.

So all in all I really struggled with this card and it is just about cobbled together to pass for his 60th birthday card and this week's DT entry. I hope to improve on this significantly next week!

The First of the Clean & Simple Christmas Cards

X-Factor started last week, and in my world that means it's nearly Christmas. Every year I make loads of 'clean & simple' style Christmas cards to send out but I also run a 'Get Ready for Christmas' workshop in October every year where we make 30 quick-make clean & simple Christmas cards, all in one day. I usually leave designing those cards right until the last minute and then get in a pickle getting all the kits cut in time, so this year I'm starting early. This is the first of those cards.

I sometimes struggle with clean & simple. I think there's a fine line between looking elegant (which is the look I'm usually aiming for) and looking empty. I started this card off with just the tags and the star but decided I hadn't achieved 'elegant' so I added the border at the bottom and the stamping behind the tags.

I loved working with Lizy's sketch even though I changed it slightly.
