I Love you More than Pinterest and a Blog Hop!

Morning Sketchers and happy Saturday to everyone!

This week is a very special week over at Sketch Saturday  - it is our 300th challenge today and today's sketch is a remake of the first ever Sketch Saturday sketch, designed by Jo Edwards, the founder. We have a blog hop to celebrate - see the details below.
My card is the Valentines Day card I made for my husband. We have a running joke that I love Pinterest more than I love him because I spend a lot of time Pinning rather than talking to him! So I saw this card by Jennifer Mcguire I just HAD to re-create something similar. I didn't have the iphone die that she used so I printed off a picture of an iphone and covered it in glossy accents for a very similar effect.  Sadly after spending a lot of time and effort on this card, he wasn't very impressed afterall, muttering something about '...well I should think so...'. Oh well, men are tough to please I suppose! I enjoyed making it nonetheless.

We are blog hopping today over at Sketch Saturday! It is our 300th challenge today and today's sketch is a remake of the first ever Sketch Saturday sketch, designed by Jo Edwards, the founder. There is hidden candy along the way, just comment at each stop to be in with a chance to win! The winners will be announced on 15th March, just before the next challenge goes live.  Here is the blog hop order:

This week's Sketch Saturday sketch is sponsored by Simon Says Stamp.  Head on over and enter your card as usual to be in with a chance of winnning this week's prize (the blog hop candy is an extra bonus!)

Layouts made with 'Now & Then' collection from the March 'Sweet As' kit

Wednesday, 5 March 2014

I was so pleased when the Now & Then collection came into stock to that I could finally get my hands on some of these gorgeous papers! I love this collection. Great colours, not overly girls and that washed out wood pattern with the flowers on - be still my beating heart!

I wanted to show off as much of the background paper as possible because I love it so much so have had to keep the rest of the layout simple - a single strip across the middle, with a scallop edge above it was literally all I did. I've kept the photos small so I could still fit three on the layout, without covering much of the background. The layout is embellished with a flag cut from patterned paper and with the stickers that are in the kit.

I've again used two quite small photos on my second layout, cropped to squares (I really love working with squares), then I layered up all of the rest of the papers, cut some flowers from one of the papers and finished off with more of the stickers.

Kirei has also used these supplies to make this layout. You can see more details on her blog about how she made it.

This month's kit is now on sale - you can see the contents list below and there is a Paypal button for purchasing. This is the last month I will be selling kits :o(

I am changing the focus of my blog somewhat with no sales anymore, and will be focusing more on tutorials and online classes so watch this space. With that in mind I've had to make the decision to cease selling my monthly kits. I'm sad about that but am excited about things to come.

Happy, Happy, Happy

Monday, 3 March 2014

Oh Happy Days...it is March which I'm hoping means Spring is on the way. I'd a bit fed up with the constant rain. Thankfully we haven't been affected by flooding or anything, it's just getting a bit dull now. We have had a beautifully bright day today - I even had to close my blind at one point as the sun was blinding me - roll on warmer and brighter spring days please.

That brings me nicely to this week's challenge over on UK Scrappers. My team (The Chatty Scrappers) are setting it, and as a group effort we came up with the criteria for the challenge:

to scraplift a layout made by one of The Chatty Scrappers;
to use a Project Life journaling card
to use bright colours because spring is nearly here; and
to use happy photos.

I have lifted this layout by Fay:

and turned it into this. I had great fun pulling out some older but bright supplies and I had masses of fun adding the ink splatters, enamel dots, gems etc. I also tried to replicate Fay's stitching in the top right corner but I got into a bit of a muddle and it didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it, but I think I can live with it.

I hope you'll play along with our challenge - you can find it on UK Scrappers here. Thank you so much for stopping by and happy scrapping x

Shiver me timbers...!

Saturday, 1 March 2014

Arrrr! Ahoy there mateys, there's no place for landlubbers here! (He he he I had to google 'talk like a pirate' to get that!)

I LOVE this week's sketch. It's designed by Debra because it is her DT week which means she designed the sketch and organised a sponsor for the challenge, and what a sponsor she got - A Random Fan have really cute images, I love all of them!
I chose 'Pirate Adventure' as my image this week. All the 'babies' in our baby group are turning 3 right now (OMG they are all getting so old!) so this card is for one of those not-so-little boys. He is a boisterous little chappy and I can just imagine him in an eye patch, waving a sword around! This little pirate looks very friendly though and I just love his little parrot sidekick

This week's Sketch Saturday sketch is sponsored by A Random Fan.  Head on over and join in with the challenge to win a fab prize.

Happy scrapping and thanks for stopping by xx

Pretty in Pigtails

Friday, 28 February 2014

The Simple Recipes challenge over on UK Scrappers was complicated this month. As well as the colours and sketch, the technique was 'reverse applique' which involved layers of paper and fabric, stitched, with embellishments added.

I started off by cutting 12 pieces of journaling card sized paper and then I started adding small scraps of paper, and small pieces of fabric to each one. I then tore and frayed the fabric and then stitched in place. I added ribbons, stickers, punched shapes and more stitching. After making 12 cards I then had to arrange them on the page so that the prettiest ones weren't covered by the photos that were going on the bottom right corner. I had intended to incorporate my little photo onto one of the cards, i.e. sew it into the card design but I forgot, oops, so it had to sit on top.

After lovingly creating all those cards, the photos looked a bit boring (!) so I stitched those too and then then looked like they belonged on this layout. The large title stickers are flocked so also went well with the whole material thing and the smaller ones are pink glittered which fitted well with the silver glittery scraps I'd used.

When I first saw the Simple Recipes challenge for this month, I nearly cast it to one side, deeming it as too much effort, but I'm really pleased I powered through and made this layout as I absolutely loved creating it and am really happy with how it turned out. I think it is my favourite layout of 2014 so far...
